Hundreds of girls join STEM career programs
Programs in Canada, Vietnam and Australia are using hands-on activities, mentorship and career exposure to encourage girls to pursue science, technology, engineering and mathematics. In Montreal and Saguenay, events for students in Grades 8 through 10 sought to build confidence and highlight careers in fields where women remain underrepresented, particularly physics, computer science and robotics. In Vietnam, more than 300 students took part in a program that emphasized expanding girls’ access to STEM amid persistent stereotypes and limited opportunities for practical experience. In Port Macquarie, a student-founded club offers free biology workshops to younger girls, with its organizer aiming to foster confidence early and make opportunities more accessible to regional and neurodivergent students. American Heart Association STEM Goes Red events in South Carolina and Indiana connected middle and high school girls with professionals, interactive demonstrations and career resources, underscoring the role of early exposure and mentorship in widening participation.
