IBM Deploys First Quantum Computer in Illinois
IBM has installed its first quantum computer in Illinois, an IBM Quantum System Two powered by its Nighthawk processor, at the University of Chicago’s Hyde Park Labs. The system is intended to anchor the National Quantum Algorithm Center and will eventually move to the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park, a state-backed campus under development on Chicago’s South Side. IBM and its partners are using the system to explore applications including drug discovery, power-grid optimization and high-energy physics. The deployment is part of a broader effort involving state government, universities and industry to build Chicago into a center for quantum research and innovation; IBM also plans a workforce-focused FutureNow Chicago center at the park.
