ICE Detains Ghanaian-Born Blogger in Ohio
Ghanaian-born conservative Christian commentator Samuel Sey was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at an Ohio airport on Oct. 21, drawing attention because he has strongly supported ICE and President Donald Trump’s deportation policies. The Department of Homeland Security says Sey entered the United States legally in 2022, overstayed his authorized stay, had no pending immigration applications and accepted voluntary departure; it said he would remain in ICE custody pending removal. Sey has previously acknowledged lacking a green card and work authorization, while a fundraising page on his behalf described him as a legal U.S. resident and said his wife was seeking his release to address possible paperwork issues. His detention has prompted debate among supporters and critics over the enforcement policies he advocated.
