IEA, CDRI launch India energy resilience study

A series of stakeholder consultations organized by the IEA and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) converge on a shared goal: strengthen India’s energy and infrastructure resilience as electricity demand rises and exposure to natural hazards and cyber threats grows. The discussions stress that nearly 300 weather-related disruptions in 2023 affected hundreds of millions of households and disrupted business activity, underscoring the urgent need to safeguard energy systems for economic growth. A memorandum of understanding signed in December 2025 between the IEA and CDRI reinforces ongoing cooperation to assess risks, close resilience gaps, and boost preparedness across the Indian power grid and broader energy infrastructure. Participants from government, industry, and civil society highlighted policy, regulation, insurance, and financing as key levers to implement resilience measures. The outcome includes a joint study to identify practical options to reduce vulnerabilities and strengthen resilience across India's energy sector, building climate-ready infrastructure for the future.
