India Launches Campaign Against Fertilizer Imbalance
Efforts to improve soil health are drawing attention to fertilizer use, farming practices and climate resilience. In India, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged farmers to use recommended fertilizer doses, as nitrogen use now exceeds recommended levels while shortages of phosphorus and especially potash persist. Reviews describe natural farming as a potentially beneficial low-input approach, but say evidence that it independently improves soil or protects crops from climate extremes remains limited because studies often combine it with other practices and inputs. In Britain, farmers are promoting regenerative methods such as cover crops and reduced tillage to build soil organic matter and help land retain water amid drought concerns. In Hawaii, a series of workshops planned for 2026–27 will offer producers training in soil conservation, water retention and climate-smart land management.
