Indiana Governor Denies Weisheit Clemency Ahead of Execution
Indiana Gov. Mike Braun denied clemency for Jeffrey Weisheit, leaving his lethal-injection execution scheduled for Nov. 5, 2026, for the 2010 murders of his fiancée’s two young children. Weisheit’s attorneys are separately seeking a temporary reprieve and independent review, arguing the state has not provided records showing its newly purchased execution drugs were tested for quality or properly stored; the Department of Correction confirmed it has the drugs but has not publicly addressed whether testing was done. The clemency appeal cited Weisheit’s mental health and alleged brain injuries, while the parole board unanimously recommended against clemency. The children’s father urged Braun to spare Weisheit, saying an execution would bring another family loss without restoring his children.
