An Indianapolis woman, Shayla Addison, 28, was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison plus three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to two counts of influencing a federal official by threat for threats against U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace. On January 15, 2025, Addison sent five text messages to Mace’s campaign phone threatening to kill her, followed by emails and threatening social media comments, all intended as retaliation for Mace’s official duties. Prosecutors noted Addison has a history of threatening behavior, including prior convictions for intimidation and invasion of privacy in three cases, such as 2019 threats against a Firehouse Subs restaurant and related incidents in later years. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge James Sweeney II in Indiana. Rep. Mace publicly acknowledged receiving numerous credible threats and emphasized that political violence has no place in the country.
