Inditex Plans 20 U.S. Expansion Projects
Inditex, the Spanish owner of Zara, is making the United States a central growth market, with planned Zara stores in Denver, Phoenix and Pittsburgh and the introduction of Massimo Dutti and Bershka in New York. The company plans about 20 U.S. expansion, refurbishment and store-upgrade projects through 2027, while relying on online demand to assess cities and favoring larger, more prominent locations over a higher store count. Inditex reported a 9% year-over-year sales increase from Aug. 1 through Sept. 7, maintaining momentum despite weaker consumer confidence, geopolitical disruptions and competition from online-focused rivals such as Shein and Temu. Rising transportation, infrastructure and operating costs are weighing on profitability, but the company continues repositioning Zara with upgraded stores and more premium offerings while retaining its value-focused appeal.
