South Carolina orders flags at half-staff for ex-judge Sanders
South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster ordered flags at the State House to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Nov. 5 in honor of Alex M. Sanders Jr., the former College of Charleston president who died at 88. Sanders also served in the state House and Senate and became the first chief judge of the South Carolina Court of Appeals. His public service included helping preserve land that became Congaree National Park and supporting the development of Columbia’s Riverbanks Zoo.
