IRGC Reports Intercepting Two Tankers in Hormuz

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused Iran of making attacks on commercial vessels a tool of state policy and warned that threats to key shipping routes could disrupt energy and agricultural supplies. He said U.S. forces were defending commercial shipping from Iranian drones and missiles. Separately, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Navy claimed it had stopped two tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, alleging they were attempting an unauthorized passage with their navigation systems off and ignored radio warnings. Iranian accounts blamed the United States and said fires or other incidents occurred, but provided few details about the vessels or what happened.
