Italian Football Legend Sandro Mazzola Dies at 83

Sandro Mazzola, the legendary Inter Milan and Italy midfielder, has died in Milan at 83. He spent his entire 17-year professional career at Inter, making 565 appearances and scoring 158 goals while winning four Serie A titles, two European Cups and two Intercontinental Cups. Mazzola scored twice in Inter’s 1964 European Cup final victory over Real Madrid and became a defining figure of Helenio Herrera’s Grande Inter. For Italy, he earned 70 caps, won the 1968 European Championship and helped the team reach the 1970 World Cup final, where it lost to Brazil. The son of Torino captain Valentino Mazzola, who died in the 1949 Superga air disaster, Sandro was remembered by Inter as one of the greatest figures in the club’s history and in world football.
