Jadumani Advances to 55kg Pre-Quarterfinals
Indian boxers continued a strong Glasgow run as Jadumani Singh Mandengbam defeated Scotland’s Aaron Cullen 5-0 to move into the men’s 55kg Round of 16, where he will face Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman for a quarterfinal berth; Lovlina Borgohain also advanced with a bye into the semifinals. In other sports, India posted a pair of lawn bowls wins and the men’s artistic gymnastics team led after the first two subdivisions, signaling momentum across disciplines. Swimmer Srihari Nataraj reached the semifinals in the 50m backstroke, while K Budigina advanced to the final in the men’s 100m S13 para-swimming after a heat in which Ali Imam also qualified. However, the Games were hit by a setback for India’s judo, as Birmingham CWG silver medallist Tulika Maan was provisionally suspended by NADA for three whereabouts failures in the past year. Overall, India’s Day 2 program showcased depth across boxing, swimming, gymnastics and lawn bowls, even as doping sanctions cast a shadow over the team.
