Jana Cardona Says Leaders Must Ask What It Is Like to Work With Them
Leadership consultant and author Jana Cardona told Dr. Tamara Patzer’s Thought Leaders Show that effective leadership begins with self-awareness, particularly by asking what it is like for others to work with you. Cardona said limiting beliefs shaped by childhood experiences and comparison can undermine confidence, while mentors and “courage builders” can help leaders move beyond them. She discussed using CliftonStrengths and DISC to understand individual thinking and communication styles, emphasizing that managers should not expect employees to communicate or operate as they do. The conversation also advocated shifting from authority and control toward empathy, clear expectations and trust in people-centered leadership.
