Vincent Janssen scored a hat trick in his first start and fourth appearance for Portland, leading the Timbers to a wild 5-4 victory over Minnesota United. Janssen’s goals in the 11th, 26th and 55th minutes made him the first Portland player to score an MLS hat trick and only the third player in league history to do so in his first start. Portland built a 3-0 lead before Minnesota rallied to tie the match, but Kristoffer Velde’s goal in the 71st minute restored the Timbers’ advantage. Minnesota’s Marcus Caldeira scored twice, while Anthony Markanich and Tomás Chancalay also found the net, but the Loons could not complete the comeback.

Chancalay and Velde coming up clutch late shows this team has more than one guy who can win a game for them.
games are wild but Minnesota's defense really let them down after building that big lead against them.
