Japan FA Chief Tashima Plans FIFA Presidency Challenge
Japan Football Association leader Kozo Tashima says he will challenge incumbent Gianni Infantino for FIFA president in next March’s election, presenting his bid as an appeal for integrity and values in football. The JFA has backed Tashima, who has served on FIFA’s ruling council since 2015; he would be the first serious challenger to Infantino. Infantino has faced criticism over a proposal to bring private investors into a commercial entity tied to World Cup rights, which he later withdrew. Candidates must secure support from at least five FIFA member federations and pass an eligibility review.
