Jazz Releases, Concerts Planned Across US, UK
Recent jazz coverage spans live performance, touring events and mentorship. A review praises guitarist Lorne Lofsky and the quartet featuring Nigel Price, Jeremy Brown and Joel Barford for an instinctive, tightly responsive set recorded at a northern England club. Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra are among the prominent acts on the October and November calendar, alongside Pittsburgh’s 56th PittJazz Seminar, where Bobby Broom will perform and teach; Broom has also released a tribute to Sonny Rollins. In Kansas City, composer, saxophonist and educator Bobby Watson’s 38th album centers on passing jazz traditions to younger musicians, whom he says need guidance in pacing themselves. A separate fall lineup at St. Mary’s College includes a free student jazz-combo concert alongside choral music and an ’80s tribute band.
