Judge weighs removing Letitia James from Cornell probe over posts
A New York judge is hearing a challenge to Attorney General Letitia James’ appointment as special prosecutor in a renewed investigation of allegations that several Cornell fraternity members sexually assaulted a former student in 2024. The accused student argues that James’ social media messages expressing support for the accuser, posted three days before her appointment, show bias and a presumption of guilt; James’ appointment followed Gov. Kathy Hochul’s decision to transfer the matter from a local district attorney who had declined to bring charges. A separate challenge to James’ role is pending in Tompkins County.
