Kenyan Cult Leader Convicted of 191 Murders

Kenyan pastor Paul Mackenzie was convicted of murdering 190 children and one adult in a case tied to more than 400 deaths at his Good News International Church’s isolated compound in coastal Kilifi County. The court found that he used religious teachings to organize forced fasting, with children targeted first and guards reportedly beating or restraining people who tried to escape or eat. The ruling also described education and medical care as condemned by the church, with treatment portrayed as evil. Mackenzie denied forcing his followers to fast; sentencing was scheduled for a later hearing.
