Khachanov Reaches US Open Semifinals After Four-Match Losing Streak
Karen Khachanov has reached the 2026 US Open semifinals after entering the tournament on a four-match losing streak and defeating notable opponents, with his quarterfinal ending when Alexander Blockx retired while trailing. He will face top seed Alexander Zverev for a place in the final. The Russian, who has won seven ATP titles and an Olympic silver medal, has been supported throughout his career by his wife, Veronika Shkliaeva, whom he met as a child and married in 2016. The couple, based in Dubai, have two sons and largely keep their family life private. Shkliaeva’s twin sister is married to fellow professional tennis player Ilya Ivashka, making the two ATP players brothers-in-law and fueling online confusion and joking conspiracy theories. Khachanov has also drawn attention for publicly expressing support for his Armenian heritage and the people of Artsakh, a gesture that prompted criticism from Azerbaijan’s tennis federation.
