Kroenke Plans $4 Billion Angels Purchase, Four-Sport Ownership
Arte Moreno has agreed to sell the Los Angeles Angels to Stan Kroenke’s Kroenke Sports & Entertainment for about $4 billion, a reported MLB record, pending league approval and an expected closing in early 2027. The deal ends Moreno’s 23-year ownership tenure as the Angels face 11 consecutive losing seasons and have not reached the playoffs since 2014. Kroenke, who also controls the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams, NBA’s Denver Nuggets and NHL’s Colorado Avalanche, would become the only owner with majority stakes in teams across all four major North American sports and MLB’s wealthiest owner. Supporters, including Magic Johnson and Mike Trout, point to Kroenke’s championship record as a reason for optimism, while former Angels players and managers expressed a mix of relief, skepticism and sadness about the transition. The sale has also drawn negative reactions from some St. Louis Cardinals fans, who view Kroenke unfavorably because of his ownership of the rival Rams.
