LA28 Unveils Preliminary Venice Beach Triathlon Courses

LA28 unveiled preliminary Olympic and Paralympic triathlon courses at Venice Beach on Sept. 23, 2026. The women's individual triathlon on July 15, 2028, will award the first medals of the Games. The men's race is on July 16, 2028, and the mixed relay on July 20, 2028. Paralympic individual triathlons take place Aug. 18-19, 2028. Individual Olympic events begin with a 1.5km ocean swim entered from the beach, only the second beach start after Rio 2016. Cyclists cover 40km in eight 5km laps that pass the Venice sign. The 10km run has four 2.5km laps crossing Venice Canals bridges. A single shared transition and finish area is at Venice Boulevard and the sand. Mixed relay teams race women-men-women-men with each athlete swimming 350m, biking 6.6km and running 1.6km. Paralympic races feature a 750m swim from a barge beyond the breakwater, 20km bike and 5km run across six sport classes. Shana Ferguson said the iconic neighborhood will add another meaningful chapter to its storied history as the first LA28 medals of the 2028 Games are awarded here.
