Lamar Defeats Idaho 23-17, Leaves Vandals 0-3

Lamar defeated Idaho 23-17, leaving the Vandals 0-3 after overcoming an early 3-0 deficit with 20 straight points before halftime. Lamar quarterback Aiden McCown ran for a touchdown and threw another, while kicker Andres Sandoval made three field goals; JoJo Uga added 105 rushing yards for the 14th-ranked Cardinals. Idaho quarterback Joshua Wood passed for 205 yards and ran for 50 yards and a touchdown, but the Vandals converted only one of five fourth-down attempts and struggled to establish a ground game. Idaho’s defense improved substantially after allowing 104 points in its first two games, limiting Lamar to three second-half points, but the late comeback ended when an onside kick failed. Idaho will host Abilene Christian next Saturday.
