Lamont Announces $12.7M Heating Aid
Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont plans to release $12.7 million from the state’s Federal Cuts Response Fund to supplement the Connecticut Energy Assistance Program as rising oil prices increase winter heating costs. The aid will support eligible low-income households, including residents who rely on deliverable heating oil; the state expects its heating assistance program to serve about 94,000 households, with benefits generally ranging from $355 to $705. Officials attributed the price surge to the Iran war’s effect on global oil supplies, and Connecticut’s congressional delegation said more than $75 million in federal LIHEAP funding had been secured. Republicans said they support relief for families but urged the state to ensure the money reaches those who need it promptly.
