UN warns 100,000 Lebanese students at risk as school year nears

Thousands of children displaced by the Israel-Hezbollah war in southern Lebanon remain housed in schools converted into shelters, leaving families uncertain about where they will live when the academic year begins on September 15. The United Nations says the disruption could jeopardize schooling for at least 100,000 children, many of whom have already missed years of education. Nearly 80 public schools were still serving as shelters, while dozens have been damaged or destroyed; some will reopen partially while continuing to house displaced families. More than 340,000 people remain displaced, and families fear their children will struggle to catch up because of interrupted classes, limited resources and continuing insecurity.
