LePage Claims Victory in Tight Maine House Race
Republican Paul LePage declared victory over Democrat Matt Dunlap in Maine’s closely contested 2nd Congressional District race, but Dunlap has not conceded and news outlets have not called the result. With most votes counted, LePage held a narrow lead, and the remaining ballots could determine whether the seat flips from Democratic to Republican. LePage said he saw no viable path for Dunlap to catch up, while Dunlap’s campaign said it was waiting for additional results. If the lead holds, LePage would be the sole Republican representing Maine in Congress, amid Democratic gains in other major state races.
