Lexington Mayor Gorton Wins Historic Third Term
Linda Gorton won a third consecutive term as Lexington’s mayor, defeating Raquel Carter with about 55% of the vote; she is only the second mayor in the city’s history to achieve three consecutive terms. The campaign featured disagreements over the city’s response to winter storms and its use of Flock license-plate reader cameras, while both candidates opposed large-scale data centers and supported extending the city’s moratorium on them. Voters also elected James Brown, Dan Wu and Stephenie Aschmann Spires to the Urban County Council’s three at-large seats, with Brown becoming vice mayor. Lexington voters approved all three charter amendments, covering councilmember pay, public attendance and accountability requirements, and regular reviews of the city charter.
