Leylah Fernandez wins Singapore Open for first title in nearly a year

Leylah Fernandez defeated Australia's Talia Gibson 7-5, 6-0 to win the Singapore Open at OCBC Arena. The result gave the 24-year-old Canadian world number 31 her sixth WTA title and her first since the Japan Open in October in the WTA 500 event. Gibson, unseeded and in her first career WTA final, recovered twice from service breaks in the first set and reached set point at 5-4 on Fernandez's serve. Fernandez held serve to stay in the set, then won nine consecutive games. Gibson committed unforced errors in the second set as Fernandez took it 6-0. Contested: none found.
