Historic Sites and Folklore Draw Halloween Visitors

Charleston’s Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon has seen year-over-year visitation growth as America250 highlights the city’s Revolutionary-era role, helping support the historic site’s finances. WCBD+ has launched a second season of Haunted History, with 13 episodes on Lowcountry stories, including the Gullah Boo Hag; other coverage explores the Old City Jail and former inmate Lavinia Fisher, as well as Arizona legends such as the Mogollon Monster and La Llorona. Across the country, historic sites and homes are drawing Halloween visitors with local history, ghost stories and seasonal scares. In St. Anthony, Idaho, a family turns a former 1920s reform school into a haunted attraction, while Michigan’s former Eloise county complex hosts two October attractions. In Pierre, South Dakota, a home haunt grew from decorations left over from a Halloween-themed wedding, and coverage of traditions such as Navajo skinwalker beliefs emphasizes their cultural significance and the need for respect.
