Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland open 31-unit Houston housing for homeless
Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Tina Knowles celebrated the opening of the Knowles-Rowland House in Houston, joined by Beyoncé’s daughters Blue Ivy and Rumi. Built on the site of the former Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth, the three-story development provides 31 permanent supportive housing units for adults experiencing chronic homelessness, including 16 units designed for people with mobility or sensory impairments. Developed with Bread of Life and Temenos Community Development Corporation, it offers residents services including mental health support, case management, benefits enrollment, life-skills training and nutrition assistance. The youth center was established in 1999 with support connected to Destiny’s Child and was damaged by Hurricane Harvey before being destroyed in a 2021 fire. At the opening, Beyoncé spoke about her childhood ties to the church and the family’s continued commitment to Houston.
