Día de Muertos events draw first crowds at Nashville cemetery
Communities in North Texas, Nashville, Atlanta and Memphis marked Día de los Muertos with gatherings honoring deceased loved ones through ofrendas, marigolds, photographs, music, food and storytelling. The celebrations presented remembrance as a joyful way to stay connected to those who have died and pass cultural traditions to younger generations. Nashville held its first city-organized celebration at Nashville City Cemetery, drawing about 300 people in its first 90 minutes and offering family activities; more than 1,000 people attended Atlanta’s event at Historic Oakland Cemetery. In Memphis, organizers said such gatherings are especially important for Latino immigrant families amid ICE enforcement raids.
