Local Elections Spotlight Town Council Changes
Reports from several communities highlight different sides of local democracy: voters in China, Maine, turned out steadily, with about 285 casting ballots over a three-hour period, while Fort Myers Beach voters chose three Town Council members in an election with turnout already above half of eligible voters by Monday evening. In Albuquerque, councilors were set to consider a charter-review task force, changes to the city’s zoning-update process, infrastructure financing and a neighborhood land-trust appeal just before Election Day. Newly sworn-in municipal officials in British Columbia were also urged to route residents’ concerns through city systems rather than personally directing staff, to promote fairness and leave time to address broader problems.
