A pet emu escaped in Santa Cruz and was reported running in and out of traffic near Harper Street and 17th Avenue. The California Highway Patrol said it received multiple calls about the bird, and officers helped safely corral it after the owner arrived. No injuries were reported.

Overnight Interstate Closures Planned Across Three States

Overnight construction and maintenance will close I-35 in Duluth from Wednesday night into Thursday morning, I-75 in Flint during overnight hours Oct. 17 and 24, and I-84 in Idaho between Garrity and Ten Mile roads Thursday night into Friday morning. Drivers will be detoured on nearby routes, including I-535 and local streets in Duluth, I-69/I-475 around Flint, and Franklin Road in Idaho.
