Louisiana Crashes Kill Two, Injure Cyclist
In Shreveport, a woman was arrested after police said she struck a bicyclist on Oct. 2, fled and disposed of evidence; the 58-year-old victim remained hospitalized in serious condition. A separate crash in Lafourche Parish killed a 36-year-old motorcyclist when his motorcycle struck a pickup that turned into its path; investigators are testing toxicology samples, and police said the motorcyclist’s helmet was not properly secured. In Baton Rouge, 29-year-old dirt bike rider Jacob Brown was killed after police said a Jeep driver made a U-turn in front of him on Old Hammond Highway. The driver, Merari Mejia, was booked on vehicular homicide and other charges after performing poorly on field sobriety tests and providing a breath sample of 0.089% more than two hours after the crash.
