Lowndes edges Valdosta 32-31 in Winnersville Classic

Lowndes edged Valdosta 32-31 in the Winnersville Classic, staying unbeaten at 9-0 and handing the Wildcats their first loss of the season. Senior quarterback Jayce Johnson scored three rushing touchdowns, including the go-ahead score late in the fourth quarter, and finished with 141 rushing yards as Lowndes relied on its ground game to rally. Valdosta had taken an 11-point lead in the second half, but Lowndes fought back; the Wildcats’ final chance ended with a fumble while they were in position to attempt a game-winning field goal. The victory leaves Lowndes in control of its path to the Region 1-7A title, with a chance to clinch next week against Colquitt County.
