LSAW Pipes Support Large-Scale Energy, Marine Projects
LSAW steel pipes are used in large-diameter oil and gas pipelines because their longitudinal submerged-arc-welded construction can support demanding requirements for diameter, wall thickness, mechanical performance, weld integrity and inspection. Selection must be based on the pipeline’s design, operating pressure and temperature, steel grade, manufacturing standards, testing, coating and traceability rather than on pipe type alone. API 5L and ISO 3183 establish key requirements for welded and seamless line pipe used in energy transportation. Heavy-wall LSAW pipes also serve offshore wind and marine engineering applications, including jacket foundations, where they must withstand wind, waves, impacts and corrosive seawater. For those structures, wall thickness, strength, impact toughness, welding quality and corrosion protection must conform to the engineering design and project specifications.
