Madison Oversight Board Praises Interim Police Monitor

Madison’s Police Civilian Oversight Board gave interim Independent Police Monitor Aeiramique Glass high marks across its performance evaluation, citing her leadership, communication, community engagement, and efforts to strengthen transparency and oversight. The evaluation came as the Common Council prepared to vote on a resolution to end Glass’s appointment; supporters of the measure say she has made too little progress on the permanent-monitor search, a central part of her interim role. Board members have questioned the division of authority over the monitor’s appointment and removal, while the city attorney said he found no rule preventing the council from acting on the resolution. The board has also discussed seeking independent legal counsel, although the city attorney said the ordinance does not authorize it to hire an outside lawyer.
