Magic City Classic Draws Crowds Across Birmingham
Birmingham’s Magic City Classic, the annual Alabama A&M–Alabama State rivalry and a weeklong celebration of HBCU culture, draws visitors and events across the city and surrounding communities. Local leaders describe the 85-year tradition as a regional asset they want to preserve, while its current agreement among the city and universities is in its final year, with possible extensions. This year’s weekend also brings a free NASCAR block party and car show at City Walk, with family activities and a focus on community and HBCU engagement. The Classic’s parade, marching bands, fashion and welcoming atmosphere are central to its appeal beyond the football game. With Halloween celebrations overlapping the festivities, residents and officials urge people to plan travel early, expect traffic and use caution, including arranging designated drivers.
