Mahomes backs QB sneaks after Chiefs goal-line failure
After the Kansas City Chiefs squandered a 24-13 fourth-quarter lead and lost 28-24 to the Denver Broncos, their failure to score from the 1-yard line renewed criticism of coach Andy Reid’s reluctance to call quarterback sneaks. Patrick Mahomes said he is willing to put his body on the line and run a sneak if it gives the team a better chance to win, while stressing that the play must be carefully chosen and that he follows the calls made. Kansas City has not used a sneak with Mahomes since he dislocated his kneecap on one in 2019; against Denver, the Chiefs instead handed the ball to Kenneth Walker III, who was stopped.
