Maine Voters Expected to Weigh Data Center Bans
Maine’s Nov. 3 election includes local ballot questions on data-center bans, alongside a closely watched Cumberland County district attorney race and other municipal measures. In Memphis, the City Council rejected an 18-month pause on data-center development but approved a 135-day moratorium, a decision that drew criticism from state Rep. Justin J. Pearson and residents concerned about facilities located near predominantly Black neighborhoods. Data-center development is also part of the political backdrop in Florida, where Democrat David Jolly and Republican Byron Donalds are competing in a governor’s race that polls show may be close despite Republicans’ large registration advantage.
