Man arrested over alleged finger-gun gesture at DC troops
William Clark, 28, was arrested near the White House after National Guard members alleged he made a finger-gun shooting gesture toward them while holding a cellphone. The troops detained him until D.C. police arrived. Clark faces charges of threats in a menacing manner and assault on a police officer; he pleaded not guilty. The menacing-threat charge carries a potential maximum penalty of 180 days in jail or a $1,000 fine. The arrest comes amid controversy over the National Guard’s ongoing presence in Washington, which local officials and residents have criticized.
