Mantic Raises $25M After Beating Human Forecasters

London-based AI startup Mantic has raised $25 million in seed funding led by Radical Ventures, with participation from Microsoft’s M12, Balderton Capital and other investors. Founded in 2024 by former Google DeepMind scientist Toby Shevlane and Ben Day, the company develops AI for “judgmental forecasting”—predicting messy, medium-term developments in geopolitics, economics, business, policy and culture. Mantic’s system beat every human competitor in the 2026 Metaculus Cup and finished behind only one other AI system, strengthening its case that machine-assisted forecasting can outperform expert judgment. The startup adapts existing AI models, tests predictions against historical outcomes and refines them for situations where context and research matter as much as conventional data analysis. It plans to use the funding to scale its technology for hedge funds, corporations and government agencies seeking better risk assessment and scenario planning.
