Marcus Smart Joins Rockets, Calls Lakers Offer 'Disrespectful'

Marcus Smart left the Los Angeles Lakers for the Houston Rockets on a two-year, $12.4 million contract after describing the Lakers’ offer as “disrespectful.” Smart said Los Angeles offered more total money but failed to provide the financial security or contract length he believed his performance warranted. He averaged 9.3 points, 3.0 assists and 1.4 steals during the 2025-26 regular season, then became even more productive and played a major role in the playoffs.
