Marseille Fans Protest McCourt During PSG Defeat

Marseille supporters protested American owner Frank McCourt during the club’s 2-1 Ligue 1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, mocking his unfulfilled “Champions Project” and calling for him to leave. The loss was Marseille’s fifth consecutive defeat in all competitions and left the club second to last in the league, extending its worst start to a top-flight season. McCourt, who bought the club in 2016 and pledged a €200 million investment to restore it to French and European prominence, has faced growing criticism as the team struggles with instability, missed Champions League revenue and financial constraints. Once France’s dominant club and its only European Cup winner, Marseille has not won the French league since 2010 and has fallen far behind PSG.
