Maryland hands UConn first Candle-era loss, 38-14

Maryland overcame an early 7-0 deficit to defeat UConn 38-14 on Saturday, handing the Huskies their first loss of the Jason Candle era. Terrapins quarterback Malik Washington completed 34 of 41 passes for 347 yards and two touchdowns, including a stretch of 18 consecutive completions, while Maryland scored on six of its next eight drives after falling behind. Harry Dalton III added two rushing touchdowns, and receivers Chris Durr Jr. and Na’eem Abdul-Rahim Gladding combined for 18 catches, 233 yards and two touchdowns. UConn quarterback Kalieb Osborne threw two touchdown passes, but the Huskies managed only 223 total yards, failed to reach Maryland’s red zone and were held to 67 rushing yards. Maryland’s sustained drives and defensive pressure exposed major problems for UConn, which will next visit Southern Miss.
