Maryland Landlord Settles Voucher Discrimination Case for $100K
Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced a $100,000 settlement with Salisbury-based Disney Properties LLC, resolving allegations that the landlord discriminated against applicants who used Housing Choice Vouchers or relied on other lawful income, including disability and retirement benefits. The state’s investigation found the company refused voucher users and required three to four current pay stubs, creating barriers for people without traditional employment income. Under the agreement, Disney Properties must accept vouchers, revise its rental applications and screening practices, and assess income based on the portion of rent applicants are responsible for paying. The company must also provide fair-housing training, waive application fees for up to 100 eligible applicants, and report on its compliance for two years.
