Maryland Man Convicted in $18.7M Medicare Fraud

A federal jury convicted Patrick Britton-Harr of fraudulently billing Medicare for respiratory tests that nursing-home physicians had not ordered during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through his company, Provista Health, he submitted $18.7 million in claims over six months, and Medicare paid more than $7.2 million; prosecutors said some tests were never performed, including after his Arizona lab had closed. The scheme relied on inexperienced employees to bill for the tests whenever COVID-19 testing took place, and Britton-Harr used the proceeds to support a lavish lifestyle that included a Porsche and a waterfront mansion.
