Matsui Leads Vang in California 7th District
Rep. Doris Matsui held an early lead over Sacramento City Councilmember Mai Vang in the closely watched Democratic contest for California’s 7th Congressional District, with roughly 38% of expected votes counted and Matsui receiving about 59% to Vang’s 41%. Matsui’s early advantage included a lead of more than 10 points in Sacramento County, while Vang’s supporters remained upbeat at her election-night gathering. The race pits Matsui, who has represented the district since 2005, against Vang, who is campaigning on generational change and priorities including affordability, housing and Medicare for All. The district spans Sacramento-area communities from Lodi to parts of El Dorado County, and officials cautioned that it could take weeks to determine the winner.
