Medi-Cal Rules Could Affect 1M Californians’ Coverage
States are weighing changes to Medicaid coverage as federal policy shifts raise concerns about access to care. California is using state funds temporarily to preserve coverage for some immigrant groups affected by new federal funding rules, while work and activity requirements scheduled to begin in January could put more than 1 million Medi-Cal recipients at risk of losing coverage, often over reporting difficulties. A Southern California discussion also highlights concerns that insurance losses could increase the region’s uninsured rate and strain community clinics, with a new Los Angeles County tax intended to support health services. In Vermont, a proposed rule would expand Medicaid coverage for rehabilitative therapies by increasing the annual limit for adults from 30 to 60 visits and removing limits for members under 21.
