Medova Victims Receive $23 Million in Recovery
About 7,000 people who paid premiums to Wichita-based Medova Healthcare Financial Group received a share of roughly $23 million in forfeited assets distributed Oct. 23. Federal authorities said Medova failed to pay valid health care claims and diverted premium money for other uses, including personal expenses of the company’s principals. The unpaid claims and expenses totaled about $32 million, leaving some customers facing provider bills and collections. Under a settlement with the Department of Labor, Medova agreed to stop administering benefit plans subject to federal law.
