Meta Unveils $1,299 High-End VR Glasses
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled Meta VR Glasses at Connect in Menlo Park for $1,299, launching in spring 2027. They weigh about 100 grams—five times lighter than the Quest 3—with a magnesium-alloy frame, micro-OLED 5K display, and a pocket puck holding the Qualcomm processor, storage and battery via optical tether. Control is by hand gestures, eye tracking and voice. The glasses run Quest software with optional Touch Plus controllers and support Dolby Vision, IMAX Enhanced, spatial audio, virtual workspaces and partners including Disney+, YouTube, HBO Max, Prime Video and major sports leagues. Zuckerberg said Meta chose to focus less on the metaverse and release VR devices only for real breakthroughs after hearing people are less interested in headsets. He showed a demo with Casey Neistat and Draymond Green and NBA multitasking, then revealed the Muse Charm. "We packed the whole Muse experience, including the whole real-time voice and avatar stack, into something that fits on a keychain and is always available to talk to," he said. "Delivering personal superintelligence is now within reach." CONTESTED: none found. Apple's Vision Pro is cited at around $3,700. Muse Charm targets holiday shipping; glasses the first half of 2027.
